Total Recall - Anxiety & Faith, Part 2

For the word of God is living and active.  Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”  — Hebrews 4:12

Is not my word like fire, declares the LORD, and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?”  — Jeremiah 23:29

Both my sisters have anaphylaxis to peanuts (the peanut allergy). Within minutes of eating a peanut, their throats swell up and they can’t breathe.  If this happens, it is vital they get an injection of adrenaline. Therefore, they carry an epipen around with them. Before the days of the epipen, my sisters would carry around an injection that would require quite some attention to administer. Being a dutiful sister, I read the instructions beforehand and attempted to commit them to memory in case I needed to inject either one of them. I committed it to memory but after about a week I could not recall the exact instructions. However, the memory is an amazing creation. About a year later I was at a restaurant with one of sisters and she ate a disguised peanut. Immediately she knew what it was because her throat started to swell. I got the injection out and to my surprise I remembered exactly what to do. I recalled the instructions when I needed them.

Scripture memory is not just for children… In the midst of a crisis we can call appropriate scripture to mind

Scripture memory is not just for children. God gives us scripture as the sword of the Spirit. In the midst of a crisis we can call appropriate scripture to mind. But how can we call them to mind if we haven’t memorised them? I would encourage you to find a verse for the week.  Write it out. Carry it around and read it several times a day. His word is a powerful weapon.
