Faith Statement

The Essentials We Believe at IBCD

God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has existed eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. All three of the Trinity are co-equal and are one God.

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus was born of a virgin, lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose in bodily form from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.

The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make humanity aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gifts every believer with spiritual gifts when they are saved. As Christians, we seek to live under His control daily.

We believe the Bible to be the complete Word of God. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance (inspiration) of the Holy Spirit. It consists of the Old and New Testaments, sixty-six books, and it is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is the Truth without any mixture of error.

People are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God’s creation. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called “sin”. This attitude separates people from God and makes us totally incapable of pleasing God in and of ourselves.

Salvation is God’s free gift to us, but we must accept it. We can never pay for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin’s penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith, we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith.

People were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be in Hell is to be eternally separated from God. To be eternally in union with Him is to be in Heaven. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence.

Statement of Basic Beliefs: We affirm the Holy Bible (the Old and the New Testaments) to be the divinely inspired Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16,17; 2 Peter 1:21), and to be the sole basis for all our beliefs and practices.

We voluntarily bind ourselves together as a body of baptized believers in Jesus Christ, and are personally committed to sharing the good news of salvation to a spiritually lost world. We accept, as the ordinances of the church, Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Christ himself gave these ordinances to His church.

At IBCD, we recognize Believer’s Baptism as the Biblical norm of an external act which represents the internal spiritual reality of death to self and new, resurrected life in Christ. In accordance with the scriptures we baptize by immersion after a person’s profession of faith in Jesus Christ as Lord. (Romans 6:3-11, Colossians 2:11-14, Acts 8:36-39)
