25 Mai: Spiritual Gifts

If you enjoy gift-giving you may need to thank Charles. Before he put his pen to paper, the observance of Christmas had come to a halt. Puritans saw it as a pagan holiday and worked to have it banned. Anabaptists ignored it branding it “Papist.”


18 Mai: Total Surrender

Hiroo Onoda refused to surrender. Onoda was a lieutenant in the
Japanese army during World War II. As part of army intelligence he
had been sent to Lubang, 90 miles southwest of the Philippine
capital Manila, in December 1944. Three months later Allied troops
landed on the island and Japanese troops began surrendering.


14 Mai: Bible Study

Most Americans just do not read much. One poll states that in the past twelve months 41% of the respondents had not read a fiction book. 42% had not read a non-fiction book. And 28% have not read one book in the past year.


12 Mai: Offering My Time

“Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives,” are words spoken at the start of the soap opera Days of our Lives since its beginning on November 8, 1965. The words are spoken as we watch sand moving from the top of the hourglass to the bottom.

Learning to pray is like going to the gym for the first time. I had a friend in college who wanted me to sign up at a gym and start working out with him. In our first session we started with the bench press. He put a bar on the weight bench. I quickly got under it and said, “I’m ready. Let’s do this!”
