Today we are finishing the parables which the Gospel of Matthew directly links to the event of Christ’s second coming. In the first parable of the ten virgins we are warned to be ready for his return and to not let a long period of time cause us to become complacent. In the second parable of the talents we are told to invest that which God has given us into his kingdom work while we wait for the return of the King which Jesus again points out will be a long wait. In the final parable about the separation of the sheep and the goats tells how this investment of our resources should look.
