SUMMARY
The passage we are looking at today begins one of the most famous portions of scripture referred to as “The Sermon on the Mount.” It is an immensely important and (in my opinion) under-appreciated part of scripture. It is essentially a “how do” manual of the faith. It is very challenging.
In fact, it is so challenging that some have said that it does not apply to Christians until after Christ returns. In other word some actually teach that the morality of the sermon on the mount is so high and so impractical that it cannot be lived until Jesus returns and sets the word straight.
I think that is nonsense.
Now when he saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, 2 and he began to teach them…
