Giving to Caesar, Staying True to God – The Gospel of Matthew, Part 85
SUMMARY
Today we are continuing in the Gospel of Matthew. We are going to be looking at a section of scripture today which runs the risk of “triggering” people because it deals with taxes and the role of government in our lives. So, at the outset I want to say that if you don’t like what I have to say today, that’s fine. If you have problem with what Jesus says, then that’s something you need to work out if you are a Christian. However, today’s passage might also help explain to some of you my approach to these things which you may find confusing at times.
Show me the coin used for paying the tax.” They brought him a denarius, and he asked them, “Whose portrait is this? And whose inscription?” “Caesar’s,” they replied. Then he said to them, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s.”
