The Gospel of Matthew, Part 6

Call to Discipleship

AUDIO ONLY

SUMMARY

A disciple is not a student. A disciple is not someone seeking to find themselves. A disciple is someone who is under the “discipline” of their master in order to become like the master. They do as the master does, they respond as the master demands. It is not something halfway done.

Sometime people hesitate to follow Jesus Christ because they are waiting for that feeling of belief and obedience, but one reason the gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke all have this call without much context is because they want to emphasize the need for faith.

“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.”
