When we become Christians we reject the slavery of sin over our lives. Through the power of Jesus Christ the bondage and hopelessness of sin is broken. But to continue to live in victory we must embrace the name of Jesus Christ and identify our lives with the life of the Messiah. Too often we interpret freedom in Christ as meaning we are without obligation to anyone but ourselves, that God has granted us an autonomy unto ourselves. We find ourselves intensely frustrated because we are powerless under the assault of Satan, not fully given over to Christ.
But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.
